Premium Grade Hojicha Powder and Catering Grade Hojicha Powder are both made from roasted green tea leaves, but they differ in terms of quality, flavour intensity, and the specific uses they are best suited for.

Ingredients and Quality:

  • Premium grade hojicha powder is made from younger, higher-quality tea leaves (often first flush or early harvest leaves) such as sencha or higher-grade bancha.
  • The roasting process for premium grade tea is typically more carefully controlled, resulting in a refined, smooth flavor profile with more complex, nuanced flavors.
  • The powder is typically finer in texture and more uniform, providing a smoother mouthfeel when used in beverages or culinary applications.

Flavour:

  • Hojicha is known for its roasted, nutty, and slightly caramel-like flavor, with smoky undertones. The roasting process reduces the tea's astringency, giving it a smooth, earthy taste that is milder and more comforting compared to traditional green tea.

Caffeine Content:

  • Hojicha has a lower caffeine content than most green teas due to the roasting process and the use of mature tea leaves, making it a great option for evening consumption or for those sensitive to caffeine.

Health Benefits:

  • Like other green teas, Hojicha contains antioxidants that support overall health, though the roasting process reduces some of the catechins (antioxidants) found in unroasted green tea. However, it still offers digestive benefits and has a soothing effect, helping with relaxation and stress reduction due to its lower caffeine levels and L-theanine content.

Storage:

  • To maintain its roasted flavor and freshness, store Hojicha in an airtight container, away from moisture, light, and strong odors.

Serving Suggestions:

Hot Version:

  1. Heat water to about 90°C (194°F) for a deeper flavor.
  2. Use 1-2 teaspoons (2-3 grams) of Hojicha tea leaves per cup (150-200 ml or 5-6 oz) of water.
  3. Steep for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. Strain and enjoy the warm, roasted flavor of Hojicha immediately.

Cold Version (Cold Brew Hojicha):

  1. Place 2-3 tablespoons of Hojicha leaves in a pitcher with 500 ml (17 oz) of cold water.
  2. Steep in the fridge for 6-8 hours, or overnight for a richer flavor.
  3. Strain and serve chilled for a refreshing, smoky cold brew.

Hojicha's rich, roasted flavor and low caffeine content make it a versatile and soothing tea that can be enjoyed at any time of day, both hot and cold. Its distinct aroma and taste are comforting, making it
